About Us

In The Beginning...

In November 2018, La Casita Ltd. celebrated its’ 50th year in business and Elena McKinnon remains in charge.  She has come a long way from her early start in 1969 as a small import shop located on S. Broad Street in the old Air Force Recruitment Station.  At that time she imported handcrafted furniture and jewelry from Spain, Chile (her birthplace) and Mexico. Along the way she added beautifully handmade Mexican Wedding dresses and crafts by local artisans.

Two years later she moved the store to its current location, 158 E. Ridgewood Avenue, she replaced furniture with unique designer clothing hitting on a more successful combination.

Female Empowerment

We empower our clients with styles that brings out their confidence.

All Ages Considered

Ages ranging from 20 - 80 year olds, we always have something for the every day or special occasion.

Satisfaction Guaranteed

We have been helping women find the right look for over 50 years!

That was a time when the town of Ridgewood was truly a village… a village of small family-owned boutiques and store fronts.  The Daily Treat was and still remains across the street but the Paris Pastry Shop is long gone. There were no chain stores, hair or nail salons or restaurants in those days.  It was quaint. People came to Ridgewood to stroll the town.

“When I first started, I had a few designers, maybe four, they did not sell to major department stores, and I have continued with that premise. Now I also choose designers who do not sell online” says McKinnon.  In the past 10 years she also supports local artisans including jewelry designers, those working with fiber and other materials to create hats, scarves, and wearable art.

What we offer

Focused on servicing women, ages ranging from mid 20s into their 80s, the shop continues to be fun and funky. It has something for everyone whether for every day or for that special occasion. “We have been helping women to find just the right look for over 50 years!” says McKinnon. Many of her loyal customers will tell you if Elena puts together an outfit for you, you will never be disappointed.

A long time customer recently summed up the La Casita experience perfectly…”Elena empowers her customers …she pulls together clothing focused on making women look their very best. Her customers love her because she takes the anxiety out of the experience of shopping for clothes and accessories.”
“I love what I do,” she says. “It’s almost like family here. I have relationships with my customers for many years. It continues to be a thing about helping women feel good about themselves.”
